Their wedding was nothing short of magical, with rustic charm, DIY elements, and special moments that left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. Join us as we take a closer look at their wedding day and the incredible story that led them there.
A Love Story 15 Years in the Making
Erica and Mathieu first met on February 14, 2009! Mathieu was sending out a playful Valentine’s message to some friends on his MSN Messenger, wishing them a “Happy Singles Awareness Day!” Erica happened to be online, responded to his message, and from that moment, a spark was lit. Fifteen years later, they finally tied the knot!
A Proposal Straight Out of a Love Song
Erica knew a proposal was coming but had no idea when or how. Mathieu recreated their very first date from 15 years ago and proposed on the beach in Kouchibouguac. He had hidden the ring inside his glasses case and told Erica he had something for her to listen to. As she pressed play, a song he had written and produced just for her started playing. Then, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Overcome with emotion, it took Erica a few seconds to say yes—she never expected such a beautiful and personal proposal!
Planning the Perfect Fall Wedding
Erica told me she always loved sunflowers, the countryside, and autumn, so combining all three was a natural choice for their wedding theme. Finding the perfect venue was a journey. While their dream venue, The Grand Ivory, was out of reach, they discovered the hidden gem of Blueberry Hill Farms. It offered the rustic barn setting they envisioned, surrounded by the stunning colours of fall—without breaking the bank
Adding to the magic, I had the pleasure of capturing their engagement photos in my private sunflower field, perfectly tying into Erica’s love for sunflowers and the country aesthetic.
Planning the wedding was truly a labour of love, with Erica taking on most of the work herself. She DIYed nearly everything, from invitations and RSVPs to decorations, signs, and even a donut board for the venue from HALO Donuts. One of her favorite DIY elements was the bouquets she and her bridesmaids carried, made with flowers from Dollarama and Michaels, lovingly crafted with the help of a family friend.
The Big Day: A Celebration of Love
On the morning of their wedding, both Erica and Mathieu were filled with a mix of emotions—excitement, nervousness, and just a little bit of exhaustion! Mathieu spent the morning running some last minute errands, but then had a chance to relax at the barber’s. Erica also spent the morning with a glam squad getting her hair and makeup done with her bridal party.
Erica’s dress was a dream come true. She hadn’t known exactly what she wanted but knew what she didn’t want. On the third dress she tried on, everything just clicked. It had sparkle, lace that didn’t resemble a tablecloth, and the perfect A-line silhouette. Mathieu’s suit colors matched their wedding theme, with custom bow ties made by their dress alteration specialist, Margo.
The ceremony was full of heartfelt moments—and some unexpected ones! As Erica and Mathieu stood at the altar, swarms of ladybugs landed on them, making for a humorous and unforgettable moment as they tried to gently remove them in front of all their guests.
Personal Touches & Special Moments
Every detail of the wedding reflected Erica and Mathieu’s personalities and love story. The handmade decorations, a custom playlist, and their unique approach to planning made their wedding a true reflection of their journey together.
One of the most touching moments was Mathieu’s speech at the reception. Even though he had rehearsed it beforehand, the emotions of the day took over, and he ended up improvising in the moment—a true testament to the depth of his feelings.
One of the most emotional moments was Erica’s father-daughter reveal—she expected her dad to be emotional, but not to the extent he was! It was truly a heartfelt moment that I was so honoured to be a part of.
The reception was a joyous celebration, filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and plenty of dancing.
A Wedding to Remember
If they could relive any part of the day, Mathieu told me he would choose the sparklers and fireworks, while Erica would go back to the reception, soaking in every moment of joy with their loved ones.
Their advice for future couples? “Don’t rush into it. Start planning and booking early. It took us almost four years of planning and budgeting to make it happen. Don’t let this chapter of your new life together start off on an empty bank account.”
As for their wedding photos? They LOVE all of them! Some of their favourites were the spontaneous shots—like when they pulled over on the side of the road, borrowed some leaves from a kind family, and created stunning, couple portraits.
Life After “I Do”
Married life hasn’t changed much for Erica and Mathieu, considering they had already been together for 15 years. But now, they get to flash some new finger jewelry! While they haven’t taken a honeymoon yet, they are planning one when their budget allows.
We were honoured to capture their Wedding Day. Erica and Mathieu’s love story reminds us why we do what we do at Casey & Co Photography Studio. Their journey is a beautiful reminder that love is patient, enduring, and always worth celebrating.
